The Bridge of Silvery Flames

A bridge of silvery flames,
Stretching from dreams to visions,
Twenty steps to prove thyself,
Twenty leaps of slivery faith.

After years of searching,
After years of pain,
During one fateful night.
The bridge materializes before you.
A bridge of silvery flames.

You float towards the bridge,
Then, suddenly, a hissing sound.
A dark shape forms in the flames.
The guardian of the bridge has awakened.

Trembling…..
Shivering…..
So silvery cold….
Yet determined and brave,
You face the guardian of the bridge.

You look at the creature,
While moving closer, and closer,
‘till you can see its face.
You freeze in your stride,
Fear strikes you like lightning….

The guardian….
The guardian is….
No… the guardian looks…
Looks just like you.
A silvery version of you….

For an eternity you stand there.
Staring at each other.
Feeling each others strength,
Feeling each others doubts.
Then you sense change.
Although nothing seems to change.

Silvery change is in the air,
You start breathing again.
And with all you strength,
You strike at the guardian.

Immediately a blow hits you,
Dizzy, confused, entering a world of pain,
You look at a pool of blood at your feet.
A silvery haze fills your eyes.

Now the guardian is gone.
Did he ever exist?
Was he a ghost of your imagination?
Did you just strike at yourself?

Then you advance towards the bridge,
Once more….
The bridge of silvery flames,
You’re close to step one,
Bleeding you think one thing…

…This will be a long night…
